Now that you have a concept of what happened to you at your conversion let’s explore what the scriptures say about those who have been born again into the Body of Christ (which is, remember, the one true church). The Bible doesn’t mention you’re an oven that’s now plugged in and turned on; it says far greater things! Here’s just a sample:
Isaiah 42:1 “Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.”
1 Peter 2:9-10 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar” – meaning belonging to God – “people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
1 Peter 1:2 “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.”
Titus 2:14 “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”
John 15:16 “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”
John 15:19 “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”
Colossians 3:12 “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;”
Colossians 1:12-13 “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:”
1 Corinthians 6:2-3 “Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?”
Romans 8:16 “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:”
Ephesians 1:4-6 “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”
2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 “But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Revelation 1:6 “And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”
Revelation 5:10 “And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”
These scriptures contain many recurring, profound titles that pertain to us – yes, us! That includes you! We are described as God’s elect, chosen, called, beloved, saints, and children. We are a chosen generation, royal priesthood, holy nation, and peculiar people. We are people of God – holy, ordained kings and priests, equipped to judge and reign on this earth with Jesus Christ as our head. How humbling and mind-blowing is that?! It should make you feel incredibly privileged and grateful on the one hand and off-the-chart excited and empowered on the other!
While most of the scriptures above highlight our calling to bring glory to God and to rule with Jesus in the Kingdom, God has a purpose for anointing people with the Holy Spirit that extends far beyond personal salvation.
