The Lord has been moving in our lives in very interesting ways!….
1) First of all, we had to head up north to drop off a check. When we searched the address, I realized it was just around the corner from a Spirit-filled brother in the Lord who had posted a video on his Facebook page just the night before, saying he was “going through a storm” in his life. We felt moved to drop in to meet him for the first time. As we waited until he had time for us, we got speaking with his receptionist. We chatted for over an hour, during which we discovered that she also was born again (of water and of the Holy Spirit - John 3:5, Acts 3:38, Acts 19:2) and was going through her own trials. We were able to counsel her from the Word, especially to start praying in tongues as much as she can each day, and we offered her some advice about sharing scriptures and praying with others.
It was such a blessed time that we ended up getting together again that weekend to chat some more and to pray over her. We’ve been keeping in touch and are praying that God will bless her growth in Him and the fruits from her personal ministry in His name.
2) Another day, we prayed with our realtor while we hung out with him during a home inspection. We didn’t end up buying the home because it turned out to be way too much of a renovation job, but we now know why God brought the house our way for a short time. Actually, our normal realtor was on vacation, so he sent his team member in his stead. After we discovered he had a Catholic background, we shared some of our stories with him and suddenly he said, “Oh, that’s what my wife does - she speaks in tongues, and I have no idea what she’s saying!” We ended up praying over him in our car and he was filled with the Holy Spirit so powerfully. He was so excited to be praying in tongues! A few days later, he came over to our hotel to get water baptized in obedience to God’s Word, and we had some more prayer together. He was all smiles!
3) Next, Don met a lovely older hispanic man as he was hanging out near the hotel pool as he listened out loud to some music on his cell phone. We found out later that he (Isaac) had been intentionally playing gospel music, hoping it would open up conversation about the Lord. Well, it worked!
Don had also gone down to the social area to see what conversations God might open up. When Don noticed what Isaac was doing, he approached him to ask if he was a churchgoer. This quickly led to Don asking Isaac if he had been filled with the Holy Spirit since he believed in Jesus (Acts 19:2). Soon, they found themselves back at our hotel room where we all prayed over Isaac. He received very quickly and was very relieved to be finally speaking in tongues so fluently and peacefully. Most of his family members had already been born again (water baptized and anointed with the Holy Spirit) for many years, and Isaac had always wanted what they had, but he struggled.
We were able to clear up some scriptural understanding for him, and we encouraged Isaac that now that he is fully converted, he has the same authority and calling as we do - to go and share with others and pray over them. Simple, but miraculous and powerful!
4) During the four months at our hotel, Don has gotten to know one of the managers. Don never really spoke anything directly about the Lord to him until very recently as he just didn’t feel it was the right timing - which is quite rare for us; we normally get talking about God fairly quickly after meeting new people. But, Don sensed that this situation was different. Finally, during a conversation about us staying longer, the subject of God came up as they discussed life’s struggles and healing needs, etc. The hotel manager was amazed to hear what Don had to say about real proof, miracles, and relationship with the Living God versus religious tradition (the manager had grown up in the Catholic system). He said, “I think I’d freak out if I ever started speaking in tongues!” Don replied, “No you won’t; you’ll feel joyful and at peace!”
Finally, the manager came to visit us in our room one evening after work, to have a coffee with us, see some scriptures for himself about being born of water and of the Holy Spirit, and to pray. We encouraged him to get water baptized first, for many reasons, which he did. He started to speak in tongues when Don prayed with him immediately afterward. Then, we suggested that he dry off and come back to the lounge room to pray some more. He did, and after a couple more times of prayer, he was praying in tongues fluently.
He was really amazed and sent a text to us the next day about how good he felt. He eagerly took a Bible home with him, too, to start with reading the New Testament for the first time. He was keen to learn about what had just happened to him and how it fits in with Jesus and the early church. Needles to say, we were all delighted for him because he’s such a nice guy!
